New Heron Foods convenience store to open on former Sutton Coldfield medical centre site – Birmingham Live

A discount retailing giant is set to open a new store in Birmingham on the site of a former medical centre.

Heron Foods is set to be the occupier of a new store being built in Falcon Lodge, Sutton Coldfield, on the site of the now-demolished former Falcon Lodge Clinic BirminghamLive understands.

The retailer sells frozen and chilled food and grocery products, with big brand names. It says it has one of the ‘fastest-changing ranges of discounted products in the UK’.

There are more than 300 shops across the North and Midlands, including in Erdington, Kingstanding and Perry Barr but this would be the first in Sutton. The chain which opened its first shop in 1979 and is now part of the B&M group

Work is well underway at the site, at the corner of Churchill Road and Lingard Road, next to the Falcon Lodge Commu8nity Hub.

The shop will be more than double to size of the former clinic at 372 metres squared from 177 metres squared. It will be a maximum of 5.6 metres high with a sloping roof and timber cladding.

The customer entrance will face Churchill Road, with a loading bay also accessed off the same road.

The store originally proposed 24 car parking spaces for customers, with two of those disabled spaces and a secure cycle storage area. But this has been changed down to four parking spaces, facing Lingard Road.

The shop will be allowed to open from 6am to 11pm Monday to Saturday and 8am to 8pm Sundays – although the exact opening hours are not yet known.

Deliveries can take place between 8am and 6pm.

The shop will create 10 full-time jobs and five part-time ones, which are currently being advertised.

Heron Foods is currently advertising on its website for duty managers, sales assistants and a cleaner for the new ‘Churchill Road store’. It says the ‘new store is opening soon’.
